Pregnancy Dental Care in Irving, TX
Dental care during pregnancy is safe, encouraged, and does more for your baby than most people realize.
Hormonal changes during pregnancy can make existing dental problems worse, and gum inflammation is common. Exams and professional cleanings while you are expecting let us track the changes and keep small things small.

Congratulations
This is an exciting time, and there is a great deal on your mind. Your teeth and gums are worth a place on the list. When your mouth is healthy your baby’s mouth is more likely to be healthy too — most of a baby’s oral bacteria comes from their mother.
Looking After Your Mouth While Expecting
- Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
- Floss once a day
- Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks
- Keep your exams and professional cleanings, so changes get noticed early
Oral Health Concerns During Pregnancy
- Pregnancy Gingivitis Hormonal changes commonly cause gum swelling and tenderness, and gums that bleed when you brush or floss. Untreated, gingivitis can develop into serious gum disease — so tell us if you notice it rather than assuming it is simply part of pregnancy.
- X-Rays You may need one for a dental emergency or a diagnosis. Dental X-rays are low radiation, and we cover you with a leaded apron to protect your abdomen and a leaded thyroid collar as well.
When to Schedule Treatment
Routine care is safe at any point, and the second trimester is generally the most comfortable window for anything more involved. Tell us you are pregnant and how far along when you book, and we will plan around it.

Pregnancy Dental Care FAQ
- Why is dental care important during pregnancy?
- Pregnancy raises your risk of gingivitis because of hormonal changes, and good oral health reduces the chance of complications including preeclampsia and preterm birth.
- Can I visit the dentist while pregnant?
- Yes — dental visits are safe and encouraged. We tailor treatment to keep you safe and comfortable at whatever stage you are at.
- Can my dental health affect my baby?
- Yes. Oral bacteria pass from mother to baby, so looking after your own mouth reduces what gets transmitted.
- When is the best time for dental work during pregnancy?
- The second trimester, roughly months four to six, is usually the most comfortable window for most procedures. We will recommend timing based on what you need.
- Are X-rays safe while I am pregnant?
- Dental X-rays are low radiation, and where one is genuinely needed we protect you with a leaded apron over the abdomen and a leaded thyroid collar. We only take them when there is a clear reason.
- My gums have started bleeding — is that normal?
- It is common in pregnancy, but it is not something to leave alone. Come and see us; pregnancy gingivitis is very treatable, and untreated it can progress.
