About the Team

OpenAI’s Finance team is building scalable infrastructure that protects company resources while enabling growth. Within P2P & Procurement, the Travel & Expense (T&E) function manages end-to-end Travel, Corporate Card, and Expense programs—from policy to and tooling to process and operations. We are transforming our global credit card and expense programs to support a high-velocity, compliance-forward environment.

About the Role

We are seeking a Global Corporate Card & Expense Lead to drive the migration to a new enterprise–wide card & expense platform and re-architect our global expense management strategy. This role will own end-to-end design, policy, and execution of OpenAI’s corporate card and expense program, ensuring alignment to cash flow goals, rebate optimization, and automation. You'll partner closely with Procurement Operations, Travel, Accounting, and Legal, as well as manage our external partners card and expense partners.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Global Process Management

    • Design and lead a centralized corporate card and expense strategy across Travel, Expense, and Purchasing (physical and virtual cards for individuals and groups).

    • Manage global expense and card spend policies to ensure clarity, usability, and alignment with business priorities.

  • Tools, Automation, Insights

    • Oversee integration of Expense tools across Travel (TMCs, OBTs, ground transportation, events) and Purchasing (ERP, procurement systems).

    • Develop scalable automation to streamline the user experience and drive operational speed, compliance, and insight.

  • Operations & Service Delivery

    • Serve as global lead for outsourced BPO partners, ensuring alignment, quality assurance, and regional coordination.

    • Implement & outsource or automate key employee lifecycle processes (e.g., virtual card issuance, outlier reporting, automated deactivation, user permission management, onboard/offboarding).

  • Cross-Functional Partnership

    • Collaborate with Procurement, Strategic Finance, Treasury, Compliance, Payroll, and Accounting to align programs with financial strategy and compliance goals.

    • Develop employee training and enablement programs for general users as well as Executive Assistants, cost center owners, for all processes.

  • Governance, Compliance, Controls

    • Define and enforce policy guardrails: eligibility criteria, spend thresholds, merchant category rules.

    • Implement proactive and reactive controls for all spend (e.g. Approvals, suspicious spend detection), using AI-powered audit logic for high-risk activity.

You might thrive in this role if you have:

  • 8+ years of experience in corporate card, travel, and expense program management

  • Proven ability to lead system transformation in Travel, Expense, Corporate Cards, or Purchasing, including vendor selection, API integration, and implementation.

  • Deep knowledge of corporate travel, expense, corporate card, purchasing, and ERP tools

  • Strong track record in improving spend visibility, compliance, and reporting through automation and system optimization.

  • Experience collaborating with Procurement, Accounting, and Finance Systems teams to align spend with strategic goals.

  • Skilled in managing BPO service delivery, vendor execution, and policy implementation.

  • Excellent project management and stakeholder coordination skills in dynamic, cross-functional environments.
