ABOUT LIFEMOVES:

LifeMoves is the largest provider of interim housing and support services in the Bay Area. Last year LifeMoves serviced over 7500 clients and returned over 2,000 people to housing and stability for 86% of families and 67% of individuals who engaged in their programs. With over two dozen and counting interim housing and service communities from Daly City to San Jose, LifeMoves gives our neighbors experiencing homelessness a temporary place to call home while providing intensive, customized case management through both site-based programs and community outreach that teaches and reinforces skills that clients need to return to and sustain stable housing.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Grant Writer will play a key role in supporting LifeMoves' mission by developing and submitting successful grant and public contract applications. The Grant Writer will work collaboratively with the Development, Finance, Programs, and Compliance Teams to achieve fundraising and contract acquisition goals. The ideal candidate will have specific experience securing public funding for interim supportive housing and will possess knowledge of public funding opportunities in San Mateo County and Santa Clara County.

Essential Project Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with LifeMoves’ Grants, Contracts, and Compliance (GCC) team to obtain additional and secure continued resources aligned with the agency's mission.
  • Identify, cultivate, secure, and renew public contracts and private grant funding.
  • Review and recommend strategies and approaches for responding to public and private RFP solicitations, focusing on opportunities in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.
  • Develop expert knowledge of LifeMoves programs and align funding proposals with local economic and community needs.
  • Management will lead the proposal process and approve the final submission; the Grant Writer should be doing the pieces in between.
  • Collaborate with the Programs, Compliance, and Finance Teams to ensure accurate, compelling, and competitive proposals.
  • Create accurate budgets in collaboration with the Finance Team.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date grant records in Salesforce and other relevant systems.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and Programs teams to provide support for grant updates, reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Track deadlines, monitor grant performance, and adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in the grant agreement.
  • Participate in strategic planning, weekly team meetings, and quarterly business reviews.
  • Prepare and support LifeMoves during monitoring visits, coordinating activities, and drafting responses as needed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA and/or MA in Public Policy, Education, Communications, Political Science, Non-Profit Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience.
  • Knowledge of private and public fundraising information sources.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Highly skilled and detail-oriented in preparing proposals/contracts for federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Excellent planning and time management skills and must be a team player.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and the internet, and the ability to develop spreadsheets, graphs, and flow charts highlighting critical data.
  • Comfort in developing working relationships and collaborating with internal and external partners.
  • Must possess a strong ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
  • Experience developing programs to serve high-barrier participants is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience writing and editing grant and contract proposals.
  • Demonstrated experience securing public funding.
  • Familiarity with local public funding sources and RFP processes.
  • Exceptional writing, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Reliable transportation and access to a personal vehicle.

  • The Grant Writer must live within a 60 mile radius to our Corporate Office based in Santa Clara, California.

Compensation

This role offers competitive compensation with a flexible hybrid schedule. Two days in office, Monday and Wednesday with three remote work days.
