Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Reports To: Director of Engineering

Location: HQ-based with up to 20% travel

Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology (BSET) or equivalent experience

Experience Required: 5–10 years in system integration and communications; experience with custom application software and diagnostic testing

Position Summary:

A leading systems integration firm is seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer to support the installation, testing, and training of SCADA and telemetry systems. This role requires a hands-on engineer who can work independently in the field and collaboratively with in-house engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have strong technical troubleshooting skills, the ability to train customers on custom software applications, and experience with integrated systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Duties (Approx. 20% Travel):

• Perform on-site diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repair of SCADA and tone telemetry systems down to the PCB level.
• Lead system installations, startups, and final acceptance testing in accordance with project specifications and contractual obligations.
• Conduct on-site customer training on software and systems.
• Document all field activity through detailed trip reports and expense submissions, including configuration changes, symptoms observed, actions taken, and resolution outcomes.
• Coordinate with factory-based engineering teams to improve software and firmware performance based on field feedback.

In-House Responsibilities:

• Support system final testing and quality assurance processes prior to shipment.
• Provide remote technical assistance and troubleshooting to customers via phone or email as directed.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by adhering to ISO 9001 procedures and reporting process inefficiencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support project and customer needs.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in SCADA systems, industrial communications, or related fields.
• Proficient in diagnosing and repairing electronic systems at the PCB assembly level.
• Strong communication skills for customer training and internal collaboration.
• Proficient in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Ability to travel up to 20% of the time for fieldwork.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with SCADA, RTU, or substation automation systems.
• Background in utility or industrial control system environments.
• Experience with Linux, embedded systems, or telemetry protocols.
